Fences & Gates
Privacy, a boundary or somewhere to keep the dog — built on posts set deep enough that the line is still straight after break-up.
A fence is a row of posts with boards attached, and every problem a fence develops is a post problem. Frost heave lifts a shallow post, the line goes crooked and the gate stops closing.
Posts first
Set deep enough, with the right backfill so water is not held around them, posts stay where they were put. That is the whole difference between a fence that lasts and one that needs straightening every few years.
Gates
Gates get the most use and the most abuse. Heavier posts, proper hardware and bracing that resists sagging are what keep one latching in year five as easily as in year one.

How a project runs
- 01 Consultation We come out, walk the property and listen to what you want the space to do.
- 02 Plan and quote A plan and a price you can look at and change before anything is dug.

- 04 Walkthrough We hand it over in person and explain what it needs to stay the way it looks.
Frequently asked questions
Why has my fence gone crooked?
Almost always frost heave on posts that were not set deep enough, or set in a way that holds water around them. Individual posts can often be reset without replacing the whole fence.
Can you build a fence on a slope?
Yes. It can either step down in sections or follow the ground, and which looks better depends on the slope and the style of fence. We will show you both.
Do you handle property lines and permits?
We will build to the line you confirm and let you know when something looks like it needs checking. Confirming the boundary itself is the property owner's to do.
